Kate joined Imran Khan and Partners as a Paralegal in 2014, and is now a Solicitor Advocate (with Higher Rights of Audience). She qualified in 2016 after completing her training contract at the firm alongside the Head of the Crime and Actions Against the Police Departments, Imran Khan.
As a Solicitor Advocate Kate appears regularly at Court, including the Crown Court, on behalf of her clients. She has recently acted for clients accused of drugs offences, violent crime and public order offences.
Kate continues to work closely with Imran Khan on complex criminal cases, and in matters involving public or private law actions against the police and other public bodies. Since 2015 she has acted for victims of covert political policing in the Public Inquiry into undercover police conduct (https://www.ucpi.org.uk). Recently, she has helped individuals and families affected by the fire at Grenfell Tower to apply for core participant status in the Inquiry established to examine the causes of the tragedy.
Kate has experience of bringing judicial review proceedings on behalf of clients who suffer harm resulting from the decisions of government departments, courts, the police and local authorities. In 2017, Kate was part of a team of lawyers including Imran Khan and Michael Mansfield QC, who represented a former Iraqi citizen in a claim for judicial review against Westminster Magistrates’ Court’s refusal to instigate criminal proceedings against Tony Blair, Jack Straw and Lord Goldsmith for the historic crime of aggression in relation to the United Kingdom’s invasion of Iraq.
Before joining Imran Khan and Partners, Kate assisted in preparing immigration and asylum appeals and judicial review applications as a Barrister’s Assistant at Garden Court Chambers. She also volunteered at a Law Centre and the human rights charity, Reprieve.
Kate has a Graduate Diploma in Law from the College of Law in London, and a First-Class Degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford.
She is conversant in French and Italian.
