Criminal trial into Birmingham wall deaths begins on 4 October 2022


Almamo Kinteh Jammeh, Ousmane Kaba Diaby, Bangally Tunkara Dukuray, Saibo Sumbundu Sillah and Mahamadou Jagana were all fatally crushed by a collapsing wall at the industrial site of Shredmet Ltd on Aston Church Road in the Nechells area of the city of Birmingham on 7 July 2016. Another worker, Tombong Conteh, was seriously injured.


The trial into two recycling companies and two people linked to them starts on 4 October 2022 at Birmingham Crown Court, and is due to last for 8 weeks.


Ensco 10101 Limited (previously known as Shredmet Ltd) of Riverside Works Trevor Street, Nechells, Birmingham will face charges under Sections 2(1) and 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Hawkeswood Metal Recycling Limited of Riverside Works Trevor Street, Nechells, Birmingham, will face charges under Sections 2(1) and 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. A prosecution has also been approved against two individuals.


It follows a three-year investigation.
