IKP successfully defend woman charged with conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration

IKP secured a not guilty verdict for S, a woman, at a hearing before Canterbury Crown Court last week. S had been charged with conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration to a member state.

Our client was alleged to have conspired with others to facilitate the commission of a breach, or an attempted breach, of immigration law, by 4 non-EU citizens.

In September 2019, UK Border Force intercepted a vehicle at the UK Inbound Tourist Controls in Dover. Upon searching the vehicle, officers found 4 illegal entrants of Albanian nationality. The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of assisting unlawful immigration. An extensive Police investigation was carried out, which saw the driver and others being charged with this offence.

S was alleged to have assisted her co-defendants by purchasing flights and ferry tickets in and out of the UK.

The Prosecution offered no evidence against the Defendant on the first day of trial and a Not Guilty verdict was entered. The trial concluded on 22 January 2025.
