Partner and Kings Counsel Imran Khan appears in BBC programme which was aired in two episodes. It is available to watch on iPlayer:
The two part documentary examines the background to the rise of Narendra Modi from Chief Minister of Gujarat to Prime Minster of India. Imran Khan was interviewed about his role in seeking to have a summons issued for the arrest of Mr Modi on behalf of the Dawood family from Batley, West Yorkshire.
Sakeel and Saeed Dawood, who were on holiday in India, were dragged from their Jeep by a Hindu mob 70 kilometres from Ahmedabad during riots that took place in 2002. Their nephew, Imran, escaped but a family friend and the driver were killed. Mr Modi was the Chief Minister at the time. The BBC documentary relies on a British government report citing ‘Chief Minister Narendra Modi [as being] directly responsible’ for the violence which it states was ‘planned possibly in advance’ by Vishva Hindu Parishad, a Hindu Nationalist organisation. The programme has received extensive coverage both in the UK and India:
