Inquest touching upon the death of Anugrah Abraham
Oct 3, 20241 min read
PC Anugrah (‘Anu’) Abraham took his own life on 3 March 2023. He was just 21 years old.
Anu was employed by West Yorkshire Police as a student police constable at the time of his death, undertaking the Police Cadet Degree Apprenticeship. He joined the force on 8 November 2021. After completing his initial training, he joined Halifax patrol team five in the Calderdale District on 18 May 2022.
Anu’s family, including his mother Sonia, and his father Amar, saw his mental and physical health deteriorate throughout his time on the force. They comment:
“Anu was loving, smart and hard-working. He never raised his voice and was a ‘gentle giant’. He was and remains the brightest light in our lives. It devastates us that he never got the chance to fulfil his dreams and purpose in life. It was snatched from him at a young age.
We hope that the Inquest will be a fearless and thorough inquiry into Anu's death".
The Inquest into Anu’s death begins this Monday 7 October, at Rochdale Coroner’s Court, Rochdale, OL16 1AT. It is listed to last for three weeks.
