Imran Khan and Partners acts for people who suffered abuse in care homes and foster families across the country.
We have worked with campaigners, such as the Shirley Oaks Survivors Association, to bring to justice those who perpetrated abuse.
By bringing claims on behalf of survivors of sexual abuse, we try to obtain compensation for them, while also holding to account the local authorities, religious organisations and other public bodies who allowed their suffering to take place.
You can read more about how we bring claims here, and what compensation survivors might be entitled to receive here.
We have worked and led on some of the most high profile child sexual abuse cases in the UK, including the following examples:
Abuse in Lambeth Children’s Homes
From the 1950s to 1980s, some 7,000 vulnerable children, many of whom were black, passed through Shirley Oaks Children’s Home, run by Lambeth Council.
Hundreds of those children, aged between just a few months old and 14, were subjected to sexual, mental and physical abuse over that 30-year period by doctors, teachers, priests, sports coaches and other authority figures.
Thanks to the hard work of campaigners, cases soon emerged from 20 other smaller children’s homes run by the borough. Foster carers and social workers working for the council have also been accused of abuse.
In January 2018, Lambeth Council set up a two-part Redress Scheme for people who, as children, were abused or feared being abused at a Lambeth Children’s Home, and/or Shirley Oaks Primary School.
By August 2020, there had been more than 1,600 applications to the scheme, and more than £46 million had been paid in compensation to victims and survivors.
Imran Khan and Partners have represented over 150 applicants to the Redress Scheme, securing more than £3 million in compensation.
“From the outside, it was idyllic – a big house on the beach, a safe haven for young, vulnerable children.
"Then you walk through the door, and you're in hell."
We act for victims of sexual abuse at the Sandryridge Children’s Home in Kent.
See the above Sky News investigation into the horrendous abuse that was perpetrated at the Home by Denis and Anne May.
Our Imran Khan KC, who is representing victims of the abuse, told Sky News that "This was either police incompetence, which means… the police failed to take action when they should have done."
"We're also considering a second claim which is to pursue misconduct in public office, where the police deliberately, wilfully did not investigate when they knew they should have done."
If you were formerly resident at Sandyridge Children’s Home in Kent and were subjected to sexual or physical abuse while in their care, and wish to be involved in the case, please email Lorna Smith at lornas@ikpsolicitors.com or call us on 02074043004 to speak Lorna Smith.
The Small School at Red House
The Small School at Red House (‘Red House’) was a mixed-gender boarding school and registered care home located in Buxton, Norfolk, and was set up in part by the controversial Tvind School Co-operative of Denmark.
Brave survivors of horrific abuse at Red House have commenced legal action in negligence, sexual abuse, for physical assault, false imprisonment, torture, starvation, and neglect. They have also started legal action against the local authorities that placed them in Red House, as well as against the Red House company directly.
If you were a former student of the Small School of Red House in Norfolk and were subjected to sexual or physical abuse while in their care, and wish to be involved in the case, please email Lorna Smith at lornas@ikpsolicitors.com or call us on 02074043004 to speak Lorna Smith.
We have a compassionate team who are ready to listen and support you in any way we can.
