SEXUAL ABUSE CLAIMS
Survivors of sexual abuse often endure long-lasting emotional and psychological harm. Pursuing a sexual abuse claim can be a crucial step toward justice and healing, providing an opportunity for acknowledgment, accountability, and financial compensation.

Understanding Sexual Abuse Claims

Sexual abuse claims arise when an individual has been subjected to unwanted sexual contact or exploitation. These claims can be made against:
-
Perpetrators of the abuse.
-
Institutions or organisations that failed in their duty to protect, such as schools, religious institutions, or care homes.

Sexual abuse claims are not solely about financial compensation—they serve as a means to hold individuals and institutions accountable for their actions or negligence.

Who Can Make a Claim?
Anyone who has suffered sexual abuse may be eligible to make a claim. This includes:
-
Survivors of historical abuse, even if the events occurred many years ago.
-
Parents or guardians acting on behalf of children who have experienced abuse.
-
Individuals seeking justice where a third party, such as an employer or organisation, enabled the abuse.

Is There a Time Limit?

While claims are typically subject to a limitation period, courts recognise the profound impact sexual abuse can have on survivors, often delaying the decision to come forward. In many cases, claims can still be pursued years—or even decades—after the abuse occurred.

Our work on sexual abuse
The firm’s public law department has built up years of expertise in dealing with child sexual abuse matters.

We have worked extensively on the Lambeth Children’s Home Redress Scheme, set up to compensate the thousands of children who suffered horrific physical and sexual abuse.

The team is also currently representing survivors of the Red House School in Norfolk, to seek compensation for the abuse they suffered. The school opened in 1984 for “problem children” across the UK to attend for an alternative education. Former pupils have now come forward and shared details of abuse from both the teachers and other pupils. The school has been described as the “home of horrors” by one survivor, whilst another survivor shared their experience of having broken bones from being restrained and being physically abused for not following the rules.

We have also been involved representing clients in the Independent Inquiry for Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA).
